The first match in the women’s main draw was already a blockbuster. In front of a packed crowd at Gstaadion, the Swiss duo Mäder/Kernen faced defending champions Cruz/Brasher. The first set went exactly as the home crowd had hoped, with the Swiss pair taking the opener. After that, the Americans raised their level, thanks in large part to Kirsten Cruz’s solid defensive play. The match was decided in a third set, where the favourites gradually pulled away to secure the victory. Cruz/Brasher claimed the match in three sets, while the Swiss pair took confidence from a strong opening-set performance.

The second match featuring Swiss players also turned into a thrilling contest. After winning their opening match, Hüberli/Brunner faced Latvia’s Tina Graudina and Lina Ebere. The Swiss pair made a strong start and claimed the first set convincingly. In the next two sets, however, the Latvians found their rhythm, while the Swiss team was unable to maintain its momentum. Graudina/Ebere completed the comeback to win the match. 

The final women’s match involving a Swiss team featured Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré against the Italian duo Gottardi/Orsi Toth R. Both teams had won their opening pool matches on Wednesday. The contest remained evenly balanced for long periods, but the Italians capitalized on the key moments to secure a straight-sets victory and move into a strong position to win the pool. 

For Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré, qualification hopes remain alive, as they can still advance to the next round with their final pool match on Friday. 

“We lacked patience and weren’t able to put enough pressure on our opponents with our serve during the decisive moments,” said Zoé Vergé-Dépré after the match.
